1 Friedrich Deetz was the captain of the U-757 a type VIIC submarine. The workhorse of the German U-boat fleet from 1941 onwards, this type was built throughout the war. The most famous VIIC was the U-96, which featured in the film 'Das Boot'. Deetz died in January 1944 when his boat was sunk in the North Atlantic age 27.
